Bengaluru, Mar 18: Food served at Indira Canteens is not safe for consumption, reveals laboratory tests.
Samples of food items such as rice, sambar and bisibelebath served at Indira Canteens at Mudalapalya, Byatarayanapura, Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Nagapura wards were tested by Ramaiah Advanced Testing Laboratory and Public Health Institute.
Both tests confirmed presence of harmful bacteria and concluded it’s not within satisfactory limits.
BJP corporator Umesh Shetty told media that cleanliness is not maintained at the Indira Canteens. “The food given to pourakarmikas is not safe and the bacteria can cause various health issues. More than 16,000 Pourakarmikas are served the Indira canteen food. The state government should immediately take action against contractors responsible for the bad quality food,” he lashed out.
Deputy chief minister D Parameshwara has taken the allegations seriously and directed the BBMP commissioner to check food quality in all Indira canteens in 198 wards.
“If the food quality is found adulterated, action will be taken against contractors,” he assured.
