Mangaluru: 'Go for Gold’ annual athletic meet inaugurated at SJEC

Mangaluru, Mar 7: 'Go for Gold-2018', the annual athletic event of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor was inaugurated at the college ground on Thursday, March 7.

Shreema Priyadarshini, international athlete and member of Railways sports division, inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag and releasing balloons. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director, SJEC, Fr Rohit D’Costa, assistant director, SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, SJEC, Alister D Souza, Rachana Crasta, sports advisors, Veneesha V Rodrigues, assistant physical education director, were present.

 



Addressing the gathering Priyadarshini said, “When I was in school, I dreamt of bagging a bronze medal at taluk level as it was difficult to win gold and silver due to experienced competitors. But slowly I gained confidence and gave all other athletes a tough fight. I beat my competitors and got recognised in state, national and international level. I sacrificed many things for what I am today,”

“Success will be achieved when you work hard. However, success may also be lost the way it came to you. Hence, work hard and never give up. Taste of success is very sweet. So try to enjoy it. Do not stick to any particular field. Enjoy life in 360 degrees. Hope this sports meet will give a new lessons for life. I congratulate all athletes and their supporters.” she added.

Rachana Crasta welcomed the dignitaries, guests and students.

A colourful march fast by students was presented. Students who participated in national level sports events were handed over the burning torch by the guest.
