Puttur, Feb 11: The Scorpio vehicle used by Manju alias Manjunath, at whom the needle of suspicion points at present, relating to the murder of Ganesh and Suresh Babu from Palakunnu, Kasargod, was recovered by the Uppinangady policemen from the compound of a lodge in Kundapur. The bodies of the above two youth were found lying in river waters near Uppinangady. The police have confiscated the vehicle.
The vehicle belongs to a man named Iqbal from Kasargod, from whom it was borrowed by Manjunath on February 6 on the pretext of going to Mangalore. After the murder, Manjunath went home, brought his wife and children to Kundapur in the vehicle, stayed overnight there and left for undisclosed destination the next day. Before leaving, he handed over the key of the vehicle to the lodge manager and at the same time, asked Iqbal over phone to collect his vehicle from Kundapur.
The policemen have learnt that the now-deceased men along with three others had visited a bar in Uppinangady where they fought over some financial dispute. Bar staff testified to this incident. Manjunath's relatives do not have close relationship with him and they are unable to throw light on his movements except confirming in unison that he could do anything for money. It is now being guessed that he has fled to Mumbai, where his in-laws reside.
The policemen believe that Manjunath killed the two with the help of two other persons named Radhakrishna and Aravindraj. Manjunath had gone to Mangalore along with the deceased brothers and also these two, for recovering money from a man in Mangalore. A dispute must have arisen between them over the sharing of the recovery culminating in murder, the policemen theorize.
