Udupi, Feb 9: Secretary of the State unit of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike K.L. Ashok said on Sunday that atrocities on women and minority communities had increased after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed office in the State.
Mr. Ashok told presspersons here that the abduction and harassment of the CPI (M) MLA from Manjeshwar, Kerala, C.K. Kunhambu’s daughter in Mangalore allegedly by a Hindutva vigilante group on February 6 was only an example of how bad things were getting.
The police have allowed vigilante groups to have a free run in the coastal districts resulting in total collapse of law and order here. “Dakshina Kannada district is fast becoming a Gujarat. Home Minister V.S. Acharya should resign for failing to curb the vigilante groups”, he said.
The vedike will stage a protest against “sene’s proposed move to make couples marry or exchage rakhi on the Valentine’s Day”, in front of the Superintendent of Police office in all the district headquarters of the State on February 12. The vedike’s Central Conference will be held on February 22, he said.
