Bantwal, Feb 9: Foundation stone for the new fair market was laid in Mani under NABARD project on Saturday. The market will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lacs.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Nayak who laid the foundation stone said that APMC has a huge responsibility to provide suitable markets for agricultural products conducive to the schemes of the centre and state governments. “Padmanabha Rai and his team works creatively in this direction,” he said.
“Mani fair where two highways meet has its own history and is popular. I will provide money under MLAs funds for the construction of toilets in the market,” he said.
Former minister B Ramanath Rai said that the market for agricultural products is the main market in Bantwal taluk. “Farmers are making use of it. We are not lagging behind in development,” he said.
Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee president Padmanabha Rai who chaired the programme, said that construction of Mani and Maninalkuru market along with APMC yard will be beneficial to farmers.
APMC vice president Chandrashekar Poojary, Zilla Panchayat member Manjula Madhava Mave, APMC member Nemiraja Rai, Chandrashekar Rai, Diwaker Pambadabettu, Balakrishna Kalladka, Mani gram panchayat president Mamatha Shetty, Sampavathi, taluk panchayat member Manjula, APMC secretary Bharathi, Bantwal taluk Krishika Samaja member Ramanath Vitla were present. Kodaje Balakrishna Alva compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks.
