Mangalore, Jan 21: The team of amateur kite flyers, 'Team Mangalore' led by Sarvesh Rao that has won laurels both at national and international levels, has added another feather to its cap. At the just-concluded 19th International Kite Festival held in Ahmedbad, it has bagged the second award in the collage kite section. The award-winning kite was made by Dinesh Holla, artist of the team.
A total of 38 teams from India and abroad had taken part in the festival. The 'Gajaraja' or elephantine kite that is 38 ft long and made of ripstop nylon cloth, won this rare honour. Already the 'Kathakkali' kite of the team has secured a place in the Limca Book of Records for being the biggest kite in India. The team won several awards earlier, including the 'Best Team Display' award in the kite festival held in Portsmouth UK and 'Best International Kite' award in the festival held in Cleethorpes, UK.
The team also included Subhas Pai, artist Dinesh Holla, Janardan Rao and Shashank Shetty. Subhas Pai and Janardan Rao received the award from Gujarat chef minister Narendra Modi.
