Udupi, Jan 19: Nethaji Sports Club, Parkala, bagged the municipal cricket trophy on Sunday January 18 by defeating United Cricketers, Shirva, by 2 wickets. The cricket tournament was organized by municipal authorities to mark this year’s Republic Day.
Earlier, Nethaji defeated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College and district Cricket Association in the quarterfinals and semi-finals.
At the final match held at KMC stadium, Manipal, Nethaji won the toss and sent in United Cricketers to bat who scored 131 runs for 6 wickets off 25 overs.
Nethaji Club openers Dhananjay and Balakrishna Parka scored 72 runs in an opening partnership with Dhanjanjay’ score at 60 runs including 2 sixes and 9 boundaries. Nethaji Club lost a few quick wickets and were 114 for 8 at one stage when Nagaraj rescued his team with 29 runs and registered victory in 21 overs.
