Bengaluru, Jan 27: The Bengaluru police have nabbed two people for forging signature of former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on a letter asking the release of Rs 200 crore to construct a hall for the Kuruba community in Sangolli, Belagavi.
Of the two arrested, Siddaruda is president of the Kuruba union in Timmapura village while Gurunath works as a stenographer in the senior Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) leader’s cabinet.
Siddaruda had initially applied for a Kuruba community hall in 2016, and was regularly visiting the Vidhana Soudha to get approval for the hall. He met Gurunath and together they decided to forge the former CM’s signature on the document.
The letter was submitted to the secretary of the Backward Classes Welfare Department. However, the secretary suspected that the signature was forged and upon further scrutiny, the same was confirmed.
The case was first registered with the Vidhana Soudha police station and later transferred to the Cubbon Park police officials.
The police who initially had 50 suspects in their radar, narrowed down to Siddaruda and Gurunath who were arrested.
