Udupi, Jan 27: Shirva police have arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Martis (60), whose body was found in the forest at Edmeru Takadebailu of Moodubelle, Shirva near here.
The arrested accused are identified as Rajendra Nayak (47), a resident of Gundupade of Pernankila village and Santhosh Poojary, a resident of Kattingeri Chakrabettu Mane. Both are remanded to judicial custody till February 8.
Police, who got the information that the accused will be coming to the wine shop on the morning of Saturday, January 26, arrested them as they arrived on a bike.
The deceased Martis who was die-hard alcoholic used to create minor ruckus in the wine shop. Based on this information, it was suspected on the day of his murder that he must have been killed for the same reason and two people who took Martis on a Scooty on Friday must have killed him.
Police even conducted inquiry in the angle of issue connected with the property also. The public has lauded the effort of Mahesh Prasad, circle inspector of Kaup and Abdul Khader, sub-inspector of Shirva for arresting the culprits within just 12 hours of committing the crime. Police have confiscated the vehicle and other instruments that were used to kill Martis.
It is said that the deceased Martis used to abuse accused Santhosh's mother under intoxication. It is said that, for the same reason, a fight took place between Santhosh and Martis a week ago near the wine shop. It is accused that on Friday, the accused made Martis to drink heavily and then took him to the forest and killed him.
