Mangaluru, Jan 16: 14 students undergoing training for JEE(Main+Adv)/NEET/KVPY/OLYMPIADS /NTSE training at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Kottara Cross, Mangaluru, have been selected to the prestigious second stage Olympiads leading to the international level. These students have proved that it is possible for students of Mangaluru to be in the top 1% of the country’s peers of their classes, informed CFAL management in a press meet held on Wednesday, January 16.
Shreyas V Pai is topper in Karnataka in Biology Olympiad (NSEB) and Suraj Samaga is topper in Karnataka in Chemistry Olympiad (NSEC).

Olympiads
These selected students are eligible to appear for the second stage of the examinations which will be held in the month of January/February. These examinations lead into international Olympiads. In mathematics, the selected students will attend a training camp at Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore in the month of January to prepare for the second stage of examination.
There were no selections from Mangaluru for Olympiads earlier. In 2009, for the first time three students of Mangaluru were selected (2 in mathematics and one in chemistry). In 2012 CFAL student Sunil Simha (Astronomy), in 2014 CFAL student Sumith (Physics & Chemistry), in 2017 CFAL student Adithya (mathematics), and in 2018 four of CFALstudents (Aditya& Aneesh (mathematics), Shreyas (Biology), Prathyush (Astronomy) were among the only 35 students selected per subject in the country to reach the prestigious third stage and had an opportunity to undergo orientation cum selection camp at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science education, Mumbai.
In 2018 PrathyushPoduval of CFAL has won the silver medal in International Olympiad for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) held at Beijing China.
In 2017, CFAL student Aditya Prakash was one among the six students who represented India in the International Math Olympiad held at Brazil.
These are great achievements of students from Mangaluru.
National level exams like Olympiads and JEE help motivate students to strive for better and deeper understanding of scientific facts and data. It helps them to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. Above all, participating in Olympiad exams and representing one’s state or country at national and international level is a matter of great joy.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science education is the nodal centre of the country for Olympiad programs. www.hbcse.tifr.res.in/olympiads. The Olympiads Examinations are conducted in subjects, physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, junior science and astronomy. The broad goals are to promote equity and excellence in science and mathematics education from primary school to undergraduate college level, and encourage the growth of scientific literacy in the country.
This is the only official Olympiad conducted by the GOI, Ministry of human resources. The participation in such competitive Examinations can motivate students with Science aptitude to nourish their interest and achieve their dreams.
