Puttur, Jan 16: The union department of law and justice has appointed senior high court advocate of Karnataka, K M Nataraj as the additional solicitor general of Supreme Court. The order, which was issued on January 14, has come into effect immediately.
Karnataka has bagged this past after a gap of 28 years. The previous occasion in which a person of Karnataka origin had functioned in this post was when retired Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde, was appointed to this post in 1989-90. Nataraj was working as additional solicitor general of south zone till now.
Nataraj is from Ishwaramangala in Puttur taluk. After getting his law degree from SDM Law College Mangaluru, he began to work as junior to former advocate general, B V Acharya, in 1992. In 1995, he began independent practice in the high court. He served as additional advocate general of the state from 2009 to 2013. In 2012 he was appointed as senior advocate of high court.
Nataraj said that in view of his elevation, he has resigned as the additional solicitor general of south zone. He said he is proud that a person from Karnataka got this opportunity after nearly three decade. He added that he is determined to discharge his duty with sincerity and honesty.
