Koppal, Jan 15: In a surprising development, a man's marriage with a girl was registered by the officials of the sub-registrar's office without the presence of the bride. This bizarre incident happened on November 23, 2018, at the office of the sub-registrar at Gangavathi in the district.
Gurupadayya Hiremath, an English teacher by profession in Lions Club School, Gangavathi, has been accused of committing this fraud on the girl. It is said that Gurupadayya had married once in the past and fell in love with another girl and very badly wanted to make her his life partner.
As per law, a person cannot marry a second time when the marriage is valid and the wife is alive. In spite of having married once, Gurupadayya went to see a girl for his second marriage. As he liked that girl, he sought her photograph from the family and got it. The girl's family in course of time, came to know about the would-be groom's first marriage, and hence refused to give their girl in marriage to him. Gurupadayya used his brain to deceive them but now he is in trouble.
By making use of his intelligence and money, Gurupadayya reportedly got the registered marriage documents prepared at the office of the sub-registrar without the presence of the girl. He got the girl's photo edited, placed forged signatures at all places meant for the girl's signature, and created documents to prove that he had got married with the girl, the girl says. But sub-registrar and marriage officer, Fareeda Begum, who has taken the side of Gurupadayya, claims that the couple had together come to her office to get the marriage registered.
Frustrated at this claim, the family of the girl approached Gangavathi police station. There are allegations that Gurupadayya pulled the right strings there too. Even though the girl has been asserting that she never visited the sub-registrar's office, the police are not taking any action. The girl, who has become suspicious about the police behaviour, has been requesting people to make sure that she gets justice.
