Bengaluru, Jan 15: Sri Raghaveshwara Bharatiteertha Swamiji of Ramachandrapura Math said that one crore applications urging the government to prohibit cow slaughter and inflicting violence on indigenous breeds of cows would be submitted to both the state and central governments. He informed that these applications had been collected in 2017 during the 48-day 'Abhayakshara Abhiyana' undertaken by the Math then.
Addressing a press meet organized on Monday January 14 at the Math at Girinagar here, he said that during August 2017, the Math had undertaken a campaign to collect applications from people seeking blanket ban on violence on indigenous species of cows and total ban on cow slaughter.
"Workers will go in a procession at 4 pm on January 21 and submit the applications to the deputy commissioner. We will wait for the response of the government. Based on the response of the government, further plan of action would be drawn," he explained.
The Swamiji felt that beef cannot be claimed as part of right to food. "There are other choices in place of beef. But once a cow is killed, it does not have a choice to live. In ancient scriptures relating to Hinduism, Islam and Christianity, beef has never been mentioned as a matter of right for food," he narrated.
