Mangaluru: ATM theft attempt at Attavar - one arrested

Mangaluru, Jan 11: A man, who entered an ATM of Corporation Bank at Attavar near Mosarukudike Katte early morning on Thursday, tried to take away cash by breaking open the monitor unit. In a swift operation, Pandeshwar station police arrested him.

The arrested man has been identified as Jayaraj (44) from Thokkottu. At around 2 am on Thursday, he had sneaked into the said ATM and tried to take away cash. After failing in his attempt, he came out and began to loiter around. During the police questioning, he claimed himself to be working as a painter.

A person had observed from a distance that Jayaraj had broken the monitor and tried to steal cash. He immediately conveyed this information to the police. By the time police came there, the accused was moving here and there near the ATM. He was taken into custody and questioned, the police officials said.

The man had covered his face with a mask when trying to break the ATM. CCTV footage showing him entering the ATM and trying to remove cash was collected by the police.

Police inspector, Mohammed Sharif, sub-inspector, Manjula, and other staff were involved with this operation.
