Kundapur, Jan 10: Bengaluru CID forest unit officers arrested five people who were smuggling invaluable deer antlers and trophy horns. The arrests were made at Koteshwar national highway 66 Haladi road junction on Thursday, January 10.
The arrested suspects are Kundapur Barekattu resident Dinesh Ganiga (54), Balehitlu mane resident Ravi (35), Albadi village resident Thonnase Deepak (32) Albadi village Guddemane resident Ravichandra Shetty (32) and Thonnase Bukkagadde resident Udaya Naika (35).
The suspects were transporting 19 deer antlers and two trophy horns in a Maruti Omni tourist car from Halady to Kundapur. Meanwhile, CID forest unit Bengaluru office bearers together with staff conducted raid and seized the antlers, seven mobile phones and a lac rupees worth Omni vehicle from them.
Forest unit DySP S S Kashi had information of the accused having antlers. The police pretended to buy them. The afternoon time was fixed for the purchase with the officers secretly watching. The suspects had brought all the goods in the joy of selling. As the incident happened in Kundapur forest department limits, the case has been registered at Kundapur and the arrested have been handed over to Kundapur forest officials.
Sub inspectors Ravi Kumar, M S Ramamurthy, staff N Kumar and Paramesh took part in the operation under guidance from forest unit DySP S S Kashi.
