Bengaluru, Jan 10: Karnataka Mahila Congress has demanded tickets for five women candidates in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. It has decided to meet high command leaders and have discussions in this regard. Mahila Congress had asked to give three seats earlier. But now, women leaders and their supporters have asked to give five constituencies out of 28 to women candidates.

AICC president Rahul Gandhi intends to give maximum number of tickets to women candidates in Lok Sabha elections. Only 18 women candidates were given tickets in 2018 Assembly elections.

Congress activists have urged Congress MLA Laxmi Hebbalkar to contest form Belagavi. She was defeated by BJP’s Suresh Angadi in 2014 elections. There are plans to make former governor of Rajasthan, Margaret Alva to contest from Uttara Kannada. Margaret Alva is influential in Congress high command level. AICC member Kanta Naik is the ticket aspirant from Vijayapura. Geetha, wife of KPCC president Ishwar Khande, is likely to contest from Bidar. There is pressure that Veena Kashappa, wife of former MLA Vijayanand Kashappa should contest from Bagalkote.

Tabu, wife of KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, may contest from Bengaluru central constituency. However Vidhan Parishad member Rizwan Arshad and former IPS officer H T Sangliana are the ticket aspirants in the constituency.
