Mangaluru, Jan 10: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader, stated that sanction for construction of 450 meter-long permanent protective wall at a cost of Rs 21.09 crore at Ullal under ADB has been received. He said that this will permanently solve the problem of sea erosion in the region.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday January 9, the minister stated that detailed project report for the works which will be conducted at Subhash Nagara, Kaiko and Hillary Nagara areas is ready and tender process will begin next month.
Khader said that a plan to extend the wall till Someshwara at a total cost of Rs 134 crore is getting ready. Under this project, beams and reefs would be laid. The first phase of work has been executed and once this project is completed, Ullal will be devoid of sea erosion, he said.
He explained that a proposal to build ring road from Mulky to Melkar via Bajpe, Kaikamba, Polali and B C Road, and from Deralakatte to Thokkottu has been submitted in the interests of the district's future progress.
He also revealed that he has issued orders, increasing the reservation for specially-abled persons in all sectors right from gram panchayat level till the city local bodies from earlier three percent to five percent. This will come into effect shortly, he stated.
