New Delhi, Dec 28: From January 1, next year, watching cable TV will become costlier. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has allowed broadcasters to increase rates by 7 per cent due to which the customer will have to pay more.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the TRAI said the move to amend the Broadcasting and Cable Tariff Order was necessitated to provide inflation-linked adjustments.
In cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, the cable operator can charge the customer up to a maximum of Rs 171 for up to 20 pay channels and 30 free to air channels.
In cities like Coimbatore, Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad etc., it will cost Rs 20 less.
For customers who subscribe to over 45 pay channels and 30 free to air channels in the same cities, the rates will be Rs 278 and Rs 235 respectively.
All the cities have been classified as X, Y and Z by the TRAI.
