Bengaluru, Jan 9: With increased encroachments of foothpaths by traders and petty shops in urban areas of Bengaluru, the State Government on Tuesday decided to shut down all those commercial shops and establishments located in residential areas without trading valid licences.

Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Tuesday held a meeting with civic agencies of the State and told the officials of BDA, BESCOM, BBMP, and BWSSB to remove all illegal establishments located on footpaths and residential areas.

It may be recalled that a couple of days ago, residents' association of Indiranagar in the City had complained to the government on the alleged functioning of illegal bars and restaurants.

Dr Parameshwara told officials to disconnect water and power supply to shops such as bar and restaurants, hotels and other business establishments located on residential areas without trading licence.

Many petty shops and hotels occupying footpaths and operating their business with scant respect to pedestrians.

On the plastic bags menace, Dr Parameshwara warned officials to crackdown all those industries manufacturing plastic bags.

Taking note of release of effluents to lakes/tanks by industries, the Deputy Chief Minister told the officials to rope in officials of the KSPCB for closing down such units.
