Mangaluru, Jan 6: Suratkal police have arrested an elderly person who used to live a lavish lifestyle by committing thefts at various places of Dakshina Kannada district and confiscated gold ornaments weighing 121 grams, the value of which is Rs 3.5 lac and two 2-wheelers from him.
Aboobacker alias Abdul Khader alias Itte Barpe Aboobacker (64), a resident of Chikkamagaluru is the arrested person. His accomplice is absconding.
A complaint was registered last month by Ramesh Poojary, resident of NMPT colony, Madhya, Suratkal near here citing the theft of 208 grams of golden ornaments and Rs 25,000 in cash from his house. When the police conducted the investigation they saw the act of theft in the CCTV that is installed in the house of Ramesh.

Around 3 am in the morning, Aboobacker and his accomplice had entered the house of Ramesh from the front door itself by using the key of the house itself. They had removed the key of the house that was kept inside by using a stick and bent hook. They tried to destroy the evidence by swiping the floor of the house after the theft. However, the police had got the required clue in the cupboard of the house. Police arrested Aboobacker with the help of his picture that was recorded in the CCTV.
Businessman during day and thief at night
The arrested Aboobacker has a cloth shop in Chikkamagaluru. During night he used to steal valuables from houses. He used to roam around in his two wheeler itself while going for theft. He had come to Madhya in Suratkal also on two wheeler from his native place of Chikkamagaluru. He has confessed with the police of stealing from the houses under the limits of police stations of Moodbidri, Bajpe, Venoor and Mulki since 2017.
The police are suspecting that Aboobacker might have committed theft in the state of Kerala also.
