Mangaluru, Jan 3: Party lovers in Dakshina Kannada guzzled down around one lac litre of beer and 50,000 litre of hard liquor this New Year’s Eve.
According to the department of Excise, on December 31, Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd depot had sold over 11,301 boxes of beer and Indian Made Liquor (IML) and Indian Made Foreign (IMFL) 25,704 liquor boxes.
According to a report in TOI, Shailaja Kote, deputy commissioner of Excise department of Dakshina Kannada said that the sales of liquor recorded a surge on last three days ahead of the New Year celebrations.
Compared to last year, there was jump in liquor sale in December alone with additional 5,000 cases of hard liquor consumed, according to the Excise department. However, compared to state sales, liquor consumption is down by 3.5 percent in Dakhina Kannada.
Kote added that due to incessant rains which caused natural calamities, tourists flow to the district was affected. Hence, the sale of liquor too dropped four percent from April to August last year.
