Kasargod, Jan 2: A human wall formed by women to symbolise their strength on Tuesday January 1 has succeeded in creating a new record in the history of the state.
The wall was conceived to represent the aspirations of women for protection of progressive values, equal opportunities for women and men and social policies committed to the principles of Indian Constitution. The success of this cultural movement, which was conceptualised by the state government, was backed by hard work which was put in for days and nights without a break. The district administration which made all out efforts towards making the programme a success has succeeded in its aim.
The wall was formed from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram. As the wall's starting point happens to be border district, Kasargod, responsibility of the authorities here were immense, and they took pains to address all concerns and come out with flying colours. The fact that women wholeheartedly took part in this mild, noble movement in excess of expectations has reinforced newfound vigour to the success of the movement. The district administration had tried for participation of one lac women but the actual participation far exceeded expectations. The fact that women came together, overlooking their religious, caste and regional differences with unity has given rise to new hopes.
The district level wall was formed from near Kasargod new bus stand circle for a distance of 44 kilometers via Press Club Junction via KSTP road till Kalikadavu. The wall was formed on time, at the appointed hour of 4 pm.
Health minister K K Shailaja led the oath taking process. She also was the first woman to stand at the beginning of the wall. MP Karunakaran’s wife Laila, Palakkad zilla panchayat president Shantakumari, Kasargod zilla panchayat member E Padmavathi, state revenue minister E Chandrashekaran’s wife Savithri Chandrashekaran, daughter Neeli Chandran, district social justice officer Deena Bharathan, district scheduled case development officer S Meenarani, youth welfare board district programme officer A Praseeda, Kasargod cooperative bank manager Sumatri and women representing various organisations participated.
Several male government officials and political leaders had gathered on the other side of the road to extend moral support to the women.
