Kolar, Dec 20: After the building crashed when she was inside the toilet, a seventh standard student of Morarji Desai Residential School at Mulbagal in the district, identified as Bisanahalli Jyotsna (12), lost her life.
The tragedy happened at around 9.15 am on Wednesday December 19 at the school located at Darga Mohallal in the town. Those who heard the sound of a wall caving in, informed the head of the school. By the people came together and reached the spot, the girl was no more.
Poor quality of building is suspected to have caused this incident. Doctors who examined the girl confirmed that the girl did not have any injury marks on her body.
Deputy commissioner of the district, J Manjunath, visited the spot, collected information, and instructed the deputy superintendent of police to register case against the building owner. Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society which manages government residential schools in the state, has announced compensation of Rs 2.50 lac to the family of the girl. Kolar zilla panchayat president, Geeta Anandi Reddy, announced compensation of one lac rupees.
