Mangaluru, Dec 15: The Carmelite friars of St Joseph’s Monastery organized their, ‘29th Carmel Day' at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte.

Sr Rose Celine, Mother General of Bethani Sisters was chief guest for the cultural evening. Fr Wilfred Rodrigues Ocd Superior of St Joseph's Monastery welcomed the gathering and presented the report.

At the very outset the brothers sang the chorus followed by a dance which reflected ‘Laudato se’ campaign (creating a better world for tomorrow by preserving nature) of the church.

A Konkani devotional album (VCD) - ‘Dee Maye Jezuk’, containing 10 Marian hymns in video form, was released by the chief guest. The hymns in the album were composed by Fr Alwyn Sequeira, Ocd and music was arranged by Sangeeth Guru Sri Joel Prereira. All the hymns were choreographed and edited by Cliyon D Souza, Loretto.

A Konkani Biblical play based on the life of Adonia, the son of King David, titled ‘Mundas’ (The Crown) was staged. The drama was written by Jocy Siddakatte Ocd and directed by Clanwin Fernandes, Kalakul. The story revolves around fight for power by an unworthy and incapable son, which David never desired to happen. Though the play has a Biblical story, it highly reflects the political developments taking place in the recent past and also hints at property fights which are common in society.

Fr Ligoury Crasta Ocd proposed a vote of thanks. Br Babush Rodrigues Ocd compered the entire programme. Around eight hundred people witnessed the annual cultural evening.
