Kundapur, Dec 14: There were strong demands for the construction of a traffic circle at Haladi market in a special meeting of village panchayat held on Thursday, December 13. A decision to forward their demand to the public works department (PWD) was taken up in the meeting. The villagers threatened to block road works if the circle was not constructed.

The matter of an illegal building in electric lane division was referred. Mescom officials said that the problem will be solved by contacting their senior officials. It was opined to speak to the owner of the unauthorised building beside Someshwar highway so that it may be demolished for widening of the road.

“MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty has brought funds for works. Therefore, a report of the decisions taken in the meeting will be sent to the PWD. Those who have built two or three shops beside the road will be allowed to keep only one room and the remaining rooms will be let out to displaced people,” said gram panchayat president Sarvotham Hegde.

Sericulture inspector Rajendra took part as the guide. Zilla panchayat member Supritha Udaya Kulal, taluk panchayat member Savitha S Mogaveera, assistant engineer Harshavardhan, Shankernarayan station assistant police inspector Chandrashekar, assistant forest officer Rakesh, grama panchayat members and villagers took part in the meeting.

“Praksam office in Bengaluru has prepared the draft of the project. The decision for constructing traffic circle will be sent to them. Staff from that office will come for survey. More funds will be required for the construction. All the efforts will put into it,” said Udupi executive engineer Chandrashekar.
