Mangaluru, Dec 13: Four cows which were grazing on the railway tracks at the railway under bridge at Kenjar in the city outskirts on Wednesday, December 12, evening were killed after a train hit them.

A few cows were moving here and there on the railway tracks at Kenjar at around 4 pm on Wednesday when the train between Mumbai and Mangaluru moved over them. The locals who came to know of the incident sometime later, rushed to the spot.

Under the leadership of Kenjar gram panchayat president, Ganesh Arbi, local youth along with others joined hands in digging a pit and burying the carcasses. No one has so far claimed ownership of these cows.

It is said that the people did not try to lay claim on the deceased cows as allowing cattle to stray on railway tracks is a punishable offence as per Railway Act.
