Moodbidri: Foundation Stone Laid for Modern Municipal Market

Moodbidri, Dec 8: District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar laid the foundation stone on Monday December 8, for the construction of a modern municipal market at the existing location.
Speaking on the occasion, Palemar said that politics in developmental issues was not justified. The town is developing fast and needs a well-organized municipal market for its residents.
MLA Abhayachandra Jain presided over the programme and said that the plan was drawn a few years ago for the modern municipal market and the union government has released Rs 60 lac under the IDMPC scheme. Moreover, the project will get a major boost if the state government releases an additional Rs 2 crore for its early completion.
Tahsildar Abhijin Shetty, municipal chief officer B C Sadanand, former municipal councillors Premanand Prabhu, Harinakshi, and Agnes Saldanha, deputy councillor Koragappa, steering committee president Bahubali Prasad, lawyer K R Pandit, former zilla panchayat member Jagdish Adikari, and municipal ward member Manoj Shetty were present on the dais.
The market will be developed on 90 cents in phases, with parking facilities on two floors in the basement, fish and vegetable stalls. Existing shopkeepers will be accommodated on the first floor. Besides, three more floors will have facilities for shopping, amusement, coffee shops, and restaurants. Meanwhile, the existing shops will be shifted to Swaraj Maidan till the complex gets ready. A team of municipal officers toured Goa and chose to develop the modern market here in lines with Panaji market, avoiding certain disadvantages witnessed there.
Municipal councilor Bhoja Kotian welcomed the gathering and APMC Mangalore Krishnaraj Hegde compered the programme.
