Udupi, Nov 30: Fr Dominic Veigas inaugurated the two-days of grand silver jubilee celebration of Nirmala English medium School Brahmavar by lighting the lamp at Holy Family Church ground Brahmavar here on Thursday, November 29.
Pramod Madhwaraj, former minister and MLA of Udupi, addressing the gathering said, “Students who are pursuing education at Nirmala School are very fortunate and blessed. Parents always want to admit their children in good schools and wish to get quality education and moral values. People are very fortune to have this school here. Getting good education is the best asset. Dakshina Kannada and Udupi always stands first or second in SSLC and PUC exams in the state. Both districts are recognised at national level. Christian missionaries have contributed a lot in the field of education.
“Nirmala School is imparting quality education for thousands of students. It has created its own bench mark in the field of education. Some schools are lagging behind in providing education. Those schools must come up with competitive spirit,” he said wishing the best for the school management and staffs of the school.

Fr Baptist Menezes presided over the programme. Conveying his message said, “Time is changing. There are two important factors ‘Communication and Transportation'. One must put effort and work hard to get success in life.”
Rev Fr Victor Fernandes said, “Today we are in a historical event. The school has completed 25 years. It was made possible with the support of staff and parents as well. A lot of effort has been put to organise such a beautiful programme.” He thanked all parents, teachers and students, who helped the school reach the milestone.
Six achievers of different fields were felicitated by the guests on the occasion for their incredible service who were Narayana Hebbar (agriculturist), Lewis D'souza (exserviveman), Uday Kumar Shetty (sports), Azmal Asadi (donated blood 56 times), Pushpa (ASI), Maithri (education) and John D'Souza (Journalist).
The management honoured the teaching staffs, non-teaching staffs for their selfless service.
Fr Joslie D'silva CFM Cap, headmaster and Fr Victor Fernandes received honour from the guests.
Karate champions also received honour from the guests of the event.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports events organised for parents.
Roshan D'Souza, assistant parish priest, Holy Family Church, Naveen Nayak, president, Varamballi gram panchayat, Antony Barnes, secretary, Holy Family Church, Sr Dr Mary Zeena Suvares, Nirmala Convent Ullala, student of the first batch of Nirmala English medium school, Ravi Prakash Gonsalves, vice president, Holy Family Church Brahmavar, Philomena D’Silva, vice president of PTA, Maithri, president, Old Student Association, Subrahmanya Acharya, president, food and refreshment committee, Jyothi president, sports committee and Moulvi D'Souza were present in the evening stage function.
Krishna Naik, president, cultural committee, delivered the voted of thanks. Chittur Prabhakar Acharya, president of PTA, extended the welcome. Veeranna, president of welcome committee compered the evening programme.
There were colourful cultural programmes to mark the silver jubilee celebration. Solo and group singing, skit 'Thayiya runa', and folk dance, were performed by parents and students which enthralled the audience. The audience encouraged the performers with huge rounds of applause.
Amitha Satish, Zaziya and Ankitha compered the cultural programme.
An android handset was offered to a lucky student.
Prior to the silver jubilee celebrations, in the morning, Ramesh hoisted the flag accompanied by Irene Lewis, proprietor of Brahmavar Chemicals and others at the school ground.
The students of Nirmala English Medium School welcomed the guests with school band.
A beautiful march fast was performed by the students.
The programme began with invocation by school choir group.
The chief guest of the function, Irene Lewis said, “Twenty-five years this school started with few charming kids. Fr Baptist Braggs took the initiative of running the school with the support of administration, parish council, parents and staffs. That time, the parents were also supportive and encouraged a lot. There is effort of hundreds of people to bring this school to a standard position. Now the school is imparting education to thousands of students. I am happy to see this school.”
Fr Victor Fernandes OFM Cap, correspondent, Nirmala Institutions, Brahmavar, in his presidential address said, “It is a golden year for our esteemed institution and an unforgettable day for us.” I thank everyone who supported directly and indirectly for the success story of this school. I thank God almighty firstly who made this day possible. Let us pray to God, and thank each other for completing 25 years successfully. We will work hard for the development of the school.” He ensured that in the coming days, the school will flourish in all fields.
Followed by the programme, a mass drill was performed by the students. Later, a procession was taken around the school.
Prizes were distributed to national level Karate championship winners.
A thanksgiving Mass was held at Holy Family Church, Brahmavar.
