Ranchi, Nov 28 (IANS): The Jharkhand government will start paddy procurement from farmers on December 1, said an official on Wednesday.
"The paddy procurement will start on December 1 and last till March 31, 2019. The paddy will be procured at a rate of Rs 1,750 per quintal. The state cabinet has already given its approval," an official of the Agriculture Department told IANS.
The official said: "The procurement will be done through state food corporation in four commissionaires of the state. In Palamau commissionary, it will done by the Food Corporation of India."
For the procurement, a total of 239 centres will be established in the state. The district administration can have additional centres based on the requirements.
The state government has released Rs 200 crore for the procurement. The farmers will be paid the price within 15 days of procurement.
