Mangalore, Nov 27: A woman survived three days in an open well, 60 ft deep, and was rescued on Tuesday November 25. She is now recuperating in a local hospital.
Forty-five-year-old migrant labourer Shivagami from Tamil Nadu (TN), wife of Rama, was living in tents with many other labourers at Naya Bazaar ground, Uppala, near here, and reportedly had a fight with a family member on Sunday November 23. She left the tent in anger and did not return. When she was still missing on Sunday evening, her husband contacted relatives and continued his search in the neighbourhood.
It is not known how Shivagami landed in the well that had enough water to drown her. It is an even bigger mystery how she managed to survive for three days without food. A few rag pickers who ventured into an abandoned house nearby on Tuesday November 25, heard a woman weeping from the open well.
On peeping into the well, they were horrified to see a woman clinging to the edge a little above the water. Thy later managed to alert the fire brigade personnel who lifted Shivagami out by lowering a huge basket tied with many ropes.
