Mangaluru, Nov 26: The annual sports day of St Aloysius College Higher Primary School, Kodialbail was held on November 24 at the Pathala ground.
The programme began with a welcome ceremony of the chief quest Dr Ashthosh Boloor the renowned ophthalmologist and a national swimmer of the city. He was escorted by rector Fr Dionysius Vaz, correspondent Fr Gerald Furtado, headmistress Philomena Lewis and vice president of the PTA Rekha Fernandes.
Headmistress Philomena Lewis welcomed the guests and the gathering formally. This was followed by the unfurling of the school flag. A spectacular march fast by the four houses, the scouts and cubs was witnessed by a large number of audience. The sports day was inaugurated and declared open by the chief guest. All the dignitaries then released the balloons to mark the expression of joy.
The most enthralling event was the splendid field display by the students of std VI.
The chief guest Dr Ashithosh Boloor an old student of the institution in his address had all praises for the march fast done by the students and well synchronized display. He said that sports is a very important part of education because it makes students disciplined. He encouraged and wished all the participants well and said not to give up but to work hard. In his sports language, he said to swim against the tide that is to balance the sports and the academics in life. He also advised the students to have more physical exercises than spending time on electrical gadgets.
Rector Fr Dionysius Vaz said that students must have desire, dedication and determination to achieve their goal in life. He also announced that sportspersons can utilize the sports policies provided by the management. He appreciated the hard work of each and everyone for making the day's event a grand success.
Fr Gerald Furtado, the correspondent appreciated the team spirit and the meticulous work by the members of the staff.
Then the much awaited track and field events started. The enthusiastic parents gathered in large numbers to witness the event and applauded the participants.
In the closing ceremony, the meet was declared closed by chief guest Nasiha. The school flag was then brought down respectfully and was handed over to the headmistress. The certificates and medals were given away by the chief guest.
The inaugural ceremony and closing were compered by Liya D’Souza and Jositta Noronha respectively.
The meet concluded with the National Anthem.
