Mangaluru: Vikas Group to boost students awareness on India through Glorious Bharath

Media Release

Mangaluru, Nov 24: To tackle the issue of enhancing the knowledge of students on the glory of our nation, former minister and chairman of Vikas Group of Education Krishna J Palemar, thought of a novel solution to make students aware about the history, mystery, glory of our nation and instill patriotism among them in a very interesting and appealing way. Thus, 'Glorious Bharath' essay writing competition was incepted.

Most of the students in the current generation have very little knowledge about the history and culture of our country, mainly because the history textbooks of the school focuses more on the invasion and the wars fought, rather than the glory of our nation. We hardly find any mention about the innovations, inventions and
technology used back then.

For this competition, topics will be selected from ‘Glorious Bharath’, an informative book consisting of 111 topics on the history and culture of India, written by Dr Ananth Prabhu G, advisor, Vikas Group of Institutions. The essay competitions are going to be conducted for the students of ninth and tenth standard in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Davanagere districts. 5,000 copies of the book are already published and they will be distributed in the schools in the above districts for free. Next year 25,000 more copies will be published so that this programme will be conducted in every district of the state.

The first, second and third place winners will be awarded Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. Also, all the participants will be given participation Certificates. The overall intention of the competition is to make the students aware about 111 wonders of our nation, so that every Indian is proud of the rich culture, heritage and unity in diversity that exists in our country.

The college is appealing to all the teachers and parents to ensure the participation of interested contestants in the programme.
