Mangaluru Nov 19: The prestigious Vishwa Konkani awards were conferred on five eminent achievers in various fields in a grand ceremony held at T V Raman Pai Hall here on Sunday, November 18.
Chairman of Manipal global education, Bengaluru, T V Mohan Das said, "Our Indian culture showed us that knowledge is more important than money. Our culture has a vast history since the time the kings of various dynasties were ruling the country, where the king used to respect the words of his close aides. Since then our culture has followed from that direction."
Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Sahitya Puraskar was awarded to H M Pernal for his ‘Beeg Ani Bigath’ (Konkani short stories), Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani poetry award was conferred on Sharath Chandra Shenoy for his Idam Na Mama (Anthology of Konkani poems).
Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani iife time achievement award was conferred on M Vishwanath Shet for his contribution to Konkani language and literature.
Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar was awarded to Dr U V Shenoy and Dr P Gowri Pai for their exemplary service in the field of health service and elderly care respectively.
President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra Basti Vaman Shenoy welcomed the gathering. Smitha Shenoy compered the programme.
New Kannada Litterateur B Gopala Krishna Pai, secretary Vishwa Konkani Kendra Shakuntala R Kini, leader of Kudumbi community Narayana Nayak, women wing leader Parvathi Bhai, Kharvi community leader K B Kharvi and others were present.
