Mangaluru, Nov 10: The 1st national Cardiac Emergency Conference, 'CECON 2018' was organized by the department of cardiology in association with department of medicine of Father Muller Medical College on November 10 and 11 at Father Muller Medical College Hospital, here.
For the first time in the history of India, cardiac simulation is being used to demonstrate cardiac emergencies using cardiac manicure at 'CECON 2018'.
The inaugural ceremony of 'CECON 2018' was held on Saturday November 10 at Decennial the Memorial Hall.
The cardiac emergency is a critical area in medical sciences. CECON 2018 is a unique conference where cardiac emergency management is critically analyzed by the doyen in the field. Unlike regular conferences, CECON 2018, a scientific programme is based on real-time clinical case-based discussion and cardiac simulation session for management of cardiac emergencies, postgraduate cardiac teaching and live based ECG quiz.
More than 600 representatives from all over India attended the conference. Eminent international and national speakers from the field of cardiology and medicine were present as resource persons for the various current topics. This conference is most relevant since cardiovascular disease, is the world’s number one killer. The conference will cover an array of cardiac emergencies including heart attack, stroke and other heart-related diseases.
Dr H Prabhakar, organizing secretary extended a warm welcome to the gathering.
The programme commenced by lighting the lamp by the esteemed guests.
Chief guest, Dr S Sachhidanand, vice-chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka said, "Today the mortality rates are higher due to the presence of non-communicable diseases rather than the communicable disease, which were witnessed earlier. This has been possible due to the improvement of sanitation and cleanliness. We are still fighting against the prevalence of communicable diseases; however, the onus is currently moved towards non-communicable diseases.
“Today the working conditions are sedentary in nature which revolves around table oriented work. This increases the risk factors. Stress work induces diabetes along with similar add-ons and these factors contribute to cardiac problems. Cardiac arrests are higher than deaths caused due to road traffic injuries and other diseases like cancer. As cardiologists and physicians, it is imperative that we think of cardiac emergencies also. Reports of cardiac arrest among adolescents are frequently been published in dailies. According to cardiologists, the number of youngsters experiencing Myocardial Infarction is on a higher note and it is high time that we investigate the factors that are responsible for the disease. Emergencies do happen at any point of time and ignorance in such cases in condemnable. It is the need of the hour that everyone needs to be aware of the minimum basic life support system. As doctors, it is imperative that we know how to overcome such situations. The ambulance drivers, paramedics and traffic police need to know the BLS procedure.
“Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences has embarked upon a programme called Jeeva Raksha, where faculties and interns are trained with the BLS procedure. Father Mullers was the first institute to organize a simulation conference. Each time I visit this institute I get an opportunity to learn something new and this institution had inspired me to set up a new state-of-the-art simulation lab at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.”
He concluded his speech by saying, ”Each one teach one."
Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho in his presidential address said, "As we age we tend to become prey to numerous diseases, which can be reversed if we adopt a healthy lifestyle. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training is beneficial in saving lives. Father Muller Simulation and Skill Centre was the first one to be set up in the state with more than 40 simulation trainers who train other professionals around the year."
Fr Ajith B Menezes, administrator, Father Muller Medical College, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, Dr Jayaprakash Alva, dean, FMMC, Dr Udaykumar, MS, organising committee members, governing board members, management committee members and staff of the institution were present on the occasion.
