Udupi, Nov 9: Opposition leader Kota Srinivas Poojary equated celebrating Tipu Jayanti to birth anniversary of Hitler? “CM is representing the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka. There are 104 MLAs, 16 MPs and other political leaders who are opposing Tipu Jayanti. The historical records say he killed Kodagu citizens ruthlessly, those who lived for safeguarding the nation. He arrested more than 60,000 Christians for the sake of getting into power. He shed people’s blood for power. What is the reason behind celebrating his birthday?" he questioned.

As per the epic, there were thousands of women who committed suicide to protect purity (virginity) and for their self-respect. Kota Poojary warned that CM HD Kumaraswamy should not inaugurate Tipu Jayanti. “He may get the support of former CM, but he should think before taking decision. Tipu was mass killer. If the State government celebrates Tipu Jayanti, it would be a black dot in future. IF BJP came to power, we will drop (give up) this celebration from the government schedule,” he assured.

District BJP President Mattaru Ratnakar said, “The current CM had opposed Tipu Jayanti, while he was not in the power. Now he again started to celebrate Tipu Jayanti. Tipu was a fanatic person and anti-religion. He has converted Christians to Muslim community by force. Tipu did nothing for Karnataka. I just wanted to give a call that no one should celebrate Tipu Jayanti. If there is a possibility, let’s celebrate birth anniversary of saints-seers,” he added.

Uday Kumar Shetty, in-charge, BJP Mangaluru division said that coalition government will not exist next year to celebrate Tipu Jayanti.

Prabhakar Poojary, president, Town BJP Udupi, Raghavendra Kini, Sheela K Shetty, Shyamala Kundar, Nalini Pradeep Rao, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Suresh Naik and others were present.
