Mangaluru: International airport to be developed on PPP model

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 9: The union government has decided to develop six more airports in the country under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. One of the airports chosen for this experiment happens to be the international airport here.

Under PPP, private concerns will take over the airports on contract basis. This decision was taken at a meeting held on Thursday November 8 at New Delhi, which was presided over by the Prime Minister.

Already airports at Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi have been upgraded with world class facilities under PPP. This method has also proved beneficial for Airports Authority of India.

The other airports proposed to be developed under PPP model are Jaipur, Ahmadabad, Lucknow, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram.

Luggage is frequently damaged. Needless ly. In Mangalore. This is a clear indication of don't care attitude. Any improvement should address this issue. Any damage caused to passengers property should be compensated for immediately.

First fix the private Taxi Mafia that is ruining the entire Culture of Mangalore. Address the basic problems .PPP model is ok if you have your basics in place. PPP is a model that needs to be scrutinized, what actually happen is the private players run it like a mafia just like the taxi operators at the Airport. The government needs some sort of control on this PPP. Knowing the way our country operates overall it is nothing but a recipe for disaster unless someone works for the well being of the region. Its quite surprising as to why AAi hasnt responded to the recent attacks on OLA/Uber.

    @Lobo.
    Well said.
I too keep wondering why Ola and Uber are not allowed at present.
I also wonder if there is a nexus between taxi mafia and Air port authorities, politicians and cops of that are in particular
    .
A strong public agitation will help to put things right.

All kind of monopolies must be uprooted completely for the benefit of passengers paying hard earned money to visit or transit through Mangalore.

    Jai Hind!!!

Create a kind of service oriented Airport like any other airports in India. Use of cabs, Ola, Uber and State run Govt. busses should be made available to the passengers and visitors to the Airport. Taxi Mafia has to stop. It's non of their business to stop any legal car companies from operating in and around Mangalore Aiprot. Auto Riskshaw's should be allowed into the Airport premises.
Make space for the children and young once to come and visit the airport and open up restaurants and food courts so people can throng along the airport and make it lively by their presence.

If developing on a PPP model, better to build a new one in a government owned land not too far from the current location such as in Niddodi. While Delhi, Hyderabad and to some extent Bangalore airport PPP model is working OK, the private player failed to add the much needed parallel runway in Mumbai airport. So, Mangalore airport should not be stuck with a single runway that too under 10,000 feet in the current location not to mention, there is not much room for terminal expansion. I also do not think the direction of the current runway is perfectly aligned to the wind pattern coming from the sea. Seattle in the USA for instance has just about 2,500 acres, have 3 parallel runways, handles 28 passenger airlines, serve 87 non-stop domestic destinations and 23 international cities with over 4 crore passengers travelling in 2017 not to mention handled over 4 lack metric tons of cargo in 2017. This speaks volumes about the efficiency of this airport. AAI should learn from efficiently run airports around the world and USA has the best air transportation network in the world.

Now the Airport Taxi operators monopoly will end and Taxi aggregators like Uber and Ola will be allowed to operate. A Private entity running the airport won’t be susceptible to lobbying by vested interests and instead focus on efficiency and airport passengers feedback and comfort like how Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad Airport do.

Which private party govt decided in front mouna modi only ambani n adani r in the list or it will a firm registered in their nagpur HQ group. And this not for the sake of development. Even Govt can earn profit from all airports by non polluted administration.
Union Govt now targetting at RBI fund. It is plan by nagpur HQ to divert our nations wealth to their treasure before the 2019 election to collapse our economy.
