Udupi, Nov 2: “RA – ID cards will be introduced in city buses for the convenience of daily city bus commuters from November 5,” said Udupi city bus owner's association president Suresh Nayak.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday he said, "If a person travelling regularly to Udupi, Manipal, Malpe, Santekatte, Ambalapady, Kadekar and other places pays a lump sum amount in advance and obtains RA – ID card, he will be able to commute in those buses any number of times. “Passengers without cards will have to pay full fare.”
“Prices of diesel, spare parts and insurance premium have increased. The change is brought because the number of private cars has increased and the passengers are decreasing everyday. The ticket fares will have to be increased every time otherwise. The rates were revised when the diesel prices were Rs 64. The price has gone up by about Rs 10 now. Therefore, travellers should cooperate wherever good transport facilities are available.”
“Law allows Rs 500 fine for ticketless travel. The rule will be followed compulsorily. A team will be formed to find defaulters. Tickets should be issued for the exact amount paid by passengers. The ticket should be preserved till the end of travel and shown to the officials who come for their verification.”
“City bus traffic is suspended at present. If it continues, bus business will have to be shut down in another three years. CCB names, suggestions and complaints can be sent to telephone numbers shown in the buses. Passengers can contact the office of the association if there are problems, non issue of tickets or for other information.”
Association honorary president Krishna Anchan, treasurer Chandan, committee member Sudhaker Kalmady and others were present.
“In government buses, the government reimburses the company concession given to students. Similarly the government should reimburse 50% of concession in city buses. The chief minister is being requested to form a by law in this connection after the bye-elections,” he said.
