Kasargod, Oct 26: The state high court (HC) has asked BJP leader, K Surendran, who was defeated in the previous assembly election from Manjeshwar constituency, to spell his stand on the election petition filed by him challenging the election of P B Abdul Razak of the Indian Muslim League.
In the assembly election held during February 2016, Surendran had been defeated by mere 89 votes from Manjeshwar constituency. Thereafer, he had filed election petition in the HC, accusing the winning candidate of indulging in widespread malpractice with votes having been cast in the names of even deceased people and those living abroad. While the HC was hearing the case, Abdul Razak died on October 20 this year.
During the hearing on Thursday, the high court wanted to know whether Surendran finds it appropriate to continue arguments in the case as the defendant in the case is no more. Surendran said that he would inform his decision in two days. The hearing has now been posted to October 31.
