Udupi, Oct 21: In view of the bypoll being held for Shivamogga Lok Sabha seat on November 3 relating to which code of conduct has come into force with effect from October 6, deputy commissioner of the district has banned possession, transportation, and use of arms, lethal weapons, ammunition etc. This has been done in order to ensure that the poll is free, fair and impartial. This order is applicable for Byndoor assembly constituency which falls within Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.

People with addresses in Byndoor assembly constituency holding arms licences have been banned from possessing, moving about with or using arms, weapons and ammunition from the date of this order till the bypoll process if concluded.

Those who have arms licence for self protection or for protecting agricultural crops should surrender all the arms they possess as mentioned in the licence in the police stations located within the jurisdiction of the addresses mentioned in their licences or with the dealerships holding licences, and obtain receipts. After a week since the declaration of the result of the election, they can take back their arms, a release from the office of the deputy commissioner said.
