Karkala, Oct 19: Indefinite voluntary protests by owners of vehicles transporting construction material against injustice to ordinary people due to non-availability of sand is in progress in Belman here. Vehicles are seen lined up on both sides of the road.
“It is difficult to run vehicles due to present sand policy. We have burnt our fingers by borrowing loan for vehicles. The district administration needs to adopt a clear sand policy. Several lorry tippers are auctioned without being able to repay loan. Some vehicles are seized by finance companies and banks. Several families have come on the road because of that. Though lorry drivers are suffering without work, our district administration acts as if it has no sympathy,” said lorry owner Raghuram Rao.
More than 30 tippers are parked in a line in front of Belman Government College. Protests continued on Thursday and Friday also. Several vehicle owners and drivers were present.
