New Delhi, Nov 6: Sports Ministry has sanctioned nine proposals, amounting to a total expenditure of Rs 84.09 lakh, for training and competition programmes of various disciplines.
The proposals, received from various National Sports Federations, have been cleared under the Scheme 'Assistance to National Sports Federations', according to a press release issued by the Sports Ministry on Wednesday.
Handball and chess are the biggest beneficiaries as the two Federations were granted Rs 25 lakh and Rs 22 lakh respectively by the Government.
The handball team will feature in the Asian women's championships in the last week of this month in Bangkok, Thailand, while the Chess players will participate in Olympiad in Dresden, Germany.
Besides, the money has also been allocated for Junior National Badminton Championship, World Women Boxing Championship in China, Billiards and Snooker Championships for Sub-Juniors, Juniors and Seniors in Indore, Junior Powerlifting Championship in Jamshedpur, Central Zonal Table Tennis Championship in Raipur and Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championship at Vijaywada.
