Chennai, Nov 5: The Ambattur Estate police on Tuesday received a complaint from a woman resident that her 22-year-old daughter was missing from their house.
When police started the investigation on the complaint, they found out that Thangaselvi, daughter of Parvathi, had eloped with Mani, a 50-year-old married man, and got married to him in Puducherry.
Police said Mani, who is a contractor, was married for 20 years and he did not have children and had married the girl as he was unhappy with his first marriage.
"So he wanted to marry again. We cannot arrest him as there is no complaint from his first wife. The girl's mother, who lodged the complaint with us has also been convinced about her daughters decision," M Kumaravelu, inspector, Ambattur Estate police station, told The Times Of India.
When police came to know that the girl had eloped with Mani, they contacted Mani over his mobile phone.
Mani told them he was unhappy about being without a child even after 20 years of marriage and had married the young woman who lived on the first floor of their house. Thangaselvi ‘sympathised with his problem," the police said, and the two went away to Puducherry to get married.
