Udupi, Sep 22: ‘Gonidhi’ an expo of artwork done by students of Manipal and Kundapura Thrivarna Art Classes, was exhibited at RSB Bhavan, Manipal here on Friday, September 21.
Gokuldas Nayak, joint commissioner, City Corporation, Mangaluru appreciated the cause behind the expo, where the proceeds of the sale will be donated to Kodagu flood victims.
“This is a good programme and is organised with a noble intention. The people of Kodagu are struggling to rebuild their life. People have responded very well by helping people who were affected due to floods in Kerala and Kodagu in terms of providing basic needs and accessories. However, help is needed in future too. People have lost everything and they are in desperate need for rehabilitation,” Nayak said.
The chief guest of the expo Jessy Andrews, principal, Madhava Kripa School, Manipal said, “Parents and teachers need to encourage children in exploring their unique talent and potential. Let us expose them to different art forms. Let us make use of our energy and utilize it on time. Let us always inspire to be creative.”
Ln Shruthi Shenoy, president of Lions Club presided over the programme.
The three day art expo on the theme cow aims to sensitize children on the need to protect cows, said Harish Saga, instructor of Thrivarna Art Centre. “We have given students the topic but they have drawn beyond their intellectual level. Each piece of painting has value and is unique. We aim to touch people’s hearts with this concept. The visitors can purchase the painting. The amount will be donated to flood victims of Kodagu. The painting exhibition has artwork done by students studying in classes 5 to PUC. This is a platform to expose their potential,” he said.
Budding artist Roshani R Bhaktha painted on concept ‘a holy vision’. She is a student of PPC Udupi. She started painting as a hobby just three months back. “I am very sad that people of Kodagu and Kerala are facing lot of difficulties and have lost everything. This is a good opportunity to pay small amount of money from my side. This is my first painting and I feel proud of selling it for a good cause.”
As many as 39 students participated in the exhibition.
P N Acharya, senior artist, U C Niranchan, director, Chithrakala Mandir, Jangama Matha Udupi were present.
The art expo cum sale remains open from 10 am to 6.30 pm till September 23. Visitors can buy the paintings.
