Beltangady, Sep 7: In a shocking incident which happened at Moojinadu in Hatyadka village in the taluk on Thursday September 6, an attempt was made on the lives of the police personnel who had visited the spot to identify the accused in a case of assault.
The accused allegedly had beaten up a local, Savitha Gore, relating to some financial issues. Savitha got admitted into the government hospital here. A case of attempt to murder had thereafter been registered against Savitha's son, Abhishek Gore, Prameela, and Jagadeesh.
In this connection, police sub-inspector of Dharmasthala station, Avinash, had visited the house of Prameela in Moojinadu along with some personnel of the station. At the sight of police, Prameela and her mother, Savitha alias Leelavathi reportedly questioned them about the authority they have to arrest them. They reportedly sought to question the legal right the police have to take them into custody. Besides threatening to kill them, they derided the police personnel by using derogatory words, it is learnt. Jagadeesh alias Mahesh, menacingly proceeded towards the police personnel who was recording the proceedings in his cellphone with a wooden cudgel in hand with the purpose of murdering him, and damaged the cellphone he was holding.
When Savitha alias Leelavathi swung the sickle she was holding, police head constable, Sukanya, was injured. When Jagadeesh tried to hit home guard volunteer, Mamata, she bent in an attempt to escape, and was injured in her shoulder. As Jagadeesh also kicked her in the stomach, she had to be admitted into hospital.
Police sub-inspector, Avinash, said that the incident happened when the police went to identify the accused relating to attack on Savitha Gore. He informed that a lady police and a woman home guard were injured, after which four persons who have been accused, were taken into custody.
In this connection, Savitha alias Leelavathi, Prameela, Abhishek Gore and Jagadeesh have been taken into custody.
Several cases stand registered against the accused in Dharmasthala police station.
