Sullia: Timber thief killed under weight of falling tree

Sullia, Aug 30: A person who had gone into the reserve forest along with others to steal timber by cutting down trees, was killed after he came under a tree that was felled by his gang. This incident happened at Tumbethadka near Bommaru in Markanja in Nellur Kemraje village here. The mishap occurred inside the forest area falling under Tumbethadka reserve forest.

Lokanath Budale from Markanja, who was a member of the gang which entered the forest, was killed in this incident. The gang then brought him out from under the tree. On seeing that he had already breathed his last, the other members of the gang developed cold feet and fled, leaving the body inside the forest.

As per information, this gang had cut down trees in two places in this forest area. Sullia police visited the spot, conducted inquest of the spot as well as the body and registered a case.

Family members of Lokanath stated that the forest department officials have registered a case against Farooq, Satya and Damodar, who were with Lokanath at the time of the tragedy and began investigating the case.

    So sad it is ,Forest has taken its revenge .I think more trees are cut illegally as normal eroding.RIP.Heartfelt sympathy to the family.Now family has to answer and live further.
