Udupi, Aug 28: The police, who had taken over custody of Shiroor bast Math at Shiroor in the district for investigating the death of head of the Math, Sri Laxmivarateertha Swamiji, handed over the base Mach to Sode Math, which is the Dwandwa (parrellel) Math to Shiroor Math and hence is automatically entitled to look after Shiroor Math in the absence of its spiritual head.

On Monday August 27 evening, police personnel handed over keys of five main rooms of the Math at Hiriadka police station. Subrahmanya Bhat, who is currently in-charge of the Math, accepted the keys. The police have also withdrawn security by four police personnel provided to the Math after the demise of former head of the Math on July 19 this year.

For facilitating investigation, the police had locked up the place where the throne of the Swamiji is kept, store room, kitchen, and office room, but had allowed the customary daily puja of the deities to be carried out at the Math.
