Kundapur, Aug 23: Heated words were exchanged between some members of Hindu organizations and the policemen at Gangolli in the taluk on the night of Tuesday August 21 on the issue of lining up cattle purportedly for slaughtering on the occasion of Bakrid festival.

The Hindu activists who came together near the Gangolli post office all of a sudden alleged that cattle had been brought together and tied up for being slaughtered on the occasion of Bakrid. They demanded that these cattle should be rescued. They sought the presence of higher police officials and MLA, duly threatening to continue agitation till the cattle are released.

Additional police forces were summoned to manage the situation. The deputy commissioner of police finally said that on the basis of information available, photographs of cattle tied up at various places would be taken, and after the conclusion of the festival, the same cattle should be exhibited by the respective houses.  In case of failure, he said that action would be taken against the concerned.

Thereafter, the protestors relented and dispersed.
