Bengaluru, Aug 23: It is common for government employees to bring recommendation letters or get support from political bigwigs or ministers over phone for getting their work including transfer and promotion done. The state department of technical education, which has woken up to the seriousness of this problem, has warned its employees of stern steps if it comes to the department's notice that employees had approached ministers for getting work done, and used names of influential persons for this purpose.
In particular, the employees have been directly requesting ministers for sanction of government facilities instead of approaching their higher officials. Peeved by this habit, the department has warned the employees of disciplinary action. It has sent a circular on the matter to all the colleges and other offices.
In the circular, the department pointed out that as per rule 26 of Karnataka Civil Service Rules 1966, no employee working under the government should bring political or other influence on his higher authority relating to matter pertaining to his or her service. Whatever applications the employees want to make, should be routed through their immediate bosses, and not others, it stated. Director in the department said that disciplinary action should be taken by management of educational institutions against violators.
It is gathered that the department of technical education is facing the problem of not only recommendations from ministers, but also of unauthorized absence. Some employees continue to abstain from their duties in aided engineering colleges and polytechnics, and no discipiinary action is taken by the management because of influence exercised by them. The director in the department has now asked all the principals and college managements to take disciplinary action in such cases without fear or favour.
