Mangaluru, Aug 11: The department of Journalism of St Aloysius College (autonomous), recently organized a developmental programme on 'Gender Taboo'.
This was an initiative by the 2nd year journalism students to throw light on gender taboos and issues prevailing in the country. Dr Balika Prashanth, vice principal of SDM Law College was chief guest.
Dr Balika, who has 22 years of teaching experience with UG and PG law students, spoke at length about the discrimination in society on the basis of gender and how the involvement of legislature helps citizens on this matter. She emphasized the 'Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace' Act. She urged the students to be aware of their rights so as to avoid any exploitation in future.
The presidential address was delivered by Jishnu S Menon, assistant professor of Journalism, St Aloysius College.
Besides this, there were two paper presentations by the students of journalism on the topics 'Gender Taboo' and 'Sanitation Facilities of Women'.
The programme also witnessed a skit preformed by the students of Al-Madhyam Association that highlighted the misconceptions faced by the genders in our society.
