Mangaluru, Aug 4: Expert PU College, Kodialbail on August 3 organized an awareness talk on drug abuse.
The session was conducted by experts from central sub-division, department of Police, here in association with the Kannada tabloid Vijaya Karnataka.
Uday M Nayak, assistant commissioner of Police, Dr Mahabalesh Shetty, forensic expert, DK district, Ramakrishna K K Inspector of Barke Police Station, in the city and Steevan Rego, journalist of Vijaya Karnataka were present.
Prof Ramachandra Bhat, principal, Expert PU College, Kodialbial campus welcomed the gathering. This was followed by a lamp lighting ceremony.
Uday M Nayak briefed the students on the adverse effects of drugs and how to overcome them. He told them that under sec 27(b), consumption of drugs and under sec 20, transportation of drugs is a punishable offence.
Dr Mahabalesh Shetty explained about the various types of drugs. He further said that as drug consumption by students is a disease and not a crime, drug addicts must be helped by counselling. He concluded by saying, “Love yourself and say no to drugs.”
Many students got their queries cleared. Zita D’Souza, head of English department compered and proposed the vote of thanks. Karunakar Balkur, head of Kannada department was also present.
